Ehning and Plot Blue top the Grand Prix in St. Gallen

Marcus Ehning has definitely found back to his winning ways; today he won the Longines Grand Prix in St. Gallen with Plot Blue. Ehning and the 16 year old stallion – and one of the German riders’ most serious Olympic prospects – had one of the three double clears of the competition, but managed to pull off a time that was 1.38 seconds faster than that of runner-up Tim Stockdale.
Another rider who had good reason to smile this weekend was Tim Stockdale. The British rider – who broke his neck in three places in October last year – ended second in the Grand Prix today on Fresh Direct Kalico Bay after producing two clear rounds. This great performance followed the pair’s two clear in Friday’s Nations Cup, and after today Tim must have given Rob Hoekstra a good application for the Olympics. Yet again it was a good weekend for the Brits; Scott Brash and Michael Whitaker were also placed in the Grand Prix.

The third and last double clear of the day came from Christian Ahlmann on the lovely stallion Codex One. The two did not touch one pole in the Nations Cup on Friday either, and Ahlmann has for sure proved the quality of Codex One this weekend. Fourth place went to home rider Steve Guerdat and Carpalo who had only one time fault in the first round.
