Clones of star dressage sire Jazz born

Two healthy clones of the famous Dutch dressage stallion Jazz have been born in the US, and will soon be sent to Broere Stud, where Jazz is domiciled.

Bred by Huub and Tiny van Helvoirt, Jazz, now 21, is owned by the Broere family. They commissioned French company Cryozootech to clone Jazz in March, 2011.

The resulting clone foals are now two months old.

“We are delighted that we have been able to use this technology. Broere Jazz, who has proved to be so valuable for the sport and breeding is in this special way genetically preserved,” studfarm Broere said.

“In the future, these clones may be used as a breeding stallion. Hereby the valuable heritage of Jazz is preserved.”

Jazz, who was trained and ridden to grand prix level by Tineke Bartels, is ranked number one on the WBFSH (World Breeding Federation of Sport Horses) list of best producing dressage sires.

He is the sire of many successful dressage horses, including Adelinde Cornelissen’s Parzival.
