Dreher wins jumping competition

Jul 6, 2012

Hans-Dieter Dreher claims the victory in the Sparkasse-Youngster-Cup for Germany. The series of competitions focuses on talented seven and eight-year-old jumping horses.

The Westphalian-bred mare Canberra R won the Sparkasse Youngster Cup at the CHIO Aachen 2012, the World Equestrian Festival. The 8-year-old jumped clear in 62.07 seconds under Hans-Dieter Dreher. She descends from Cyrano de Bergerac out of a Phantom dam. The 40-year-old rider flew in to Aachen straight from Monte Carlo, where he ranked second with Embassy II in the Grand Prix at the weekend.

Second place in the Sparkasse Youngster Cup went to the American show-jumper, Lauren Hough, who had saddled the Swedish mare Ohlala, who descends from Orlando. The pair took just a fraction of a second longer to complete the course, crossing the finish line in 62.61 seconds. The French rider, Roger Yves Bost, finished third with Qoud'Coeur de la Loge, an 8-year-old Selle Francais stallion by Ideal de la Loge.

Ludger Beerbaum has only been riding the graded KWPN stallion, Zinedine, a mighty jumper, for three weeks. The 8-year-old stallion that descends from Guidam/Heartbreaker, jumped clear in 73.28 seconds and although they only ranked 15th overall, Beerbaum was very pleased with his performance. “He has super reflexes, enormous talent and he jumps fantastically,” said Beerbaum delighted with his 8-year-old newcomer. “I knew him already from videos his owner sent me last year. Then, he lost his rider this year, so he rang to ask if he could bring him over for a week on trial. I bought him straight away after the week’s trial,” commented Beerbaum.

Marco Kutscher steered the Con Capitol mare Caprice round the course in 67.19 seconds to finish ninth. “Caprice is a very elegant, uncomplicated horse, not at all spooky and she really fights for you. I have been riding her for almost a year, we have already had some good results in 2012, including a few victories,” reported Kutscher. He is looking forward to the Mercedes Benz Nations Cup this evening. “The last line of the course is going to be decisive. It is really difficult. There is a lot at stake and everyone wants to do as well as possible. We’ll have to wait and see how things go.”
