Preis der AachenMünchener to Christian Ahlmann

Jul 7, 2012

As last to go in the winning round, Christian Ahlmann stole the win from Laura Kraut in the Preis der AachenMünchener. Christian’s win came on Lorena 111 (Larenco x Romeo), after the two produced a double clear in the 1.50 class with a winning round. Christian came in as last to go in the winning round, and set off in a blistering pace on the 10 year old mare. Lorena 111 is a quick horse, and did not need to be asked twice when put into top gear around the shortened track. Christian’s turn to the third last fence – a Rolex vertical – and a gallop worthy of a race track on the last two stretches, contributed to the fastest time of the day at 50.80! The German crowds went wild, and goose bumps where unavoidable as Christian paid tribute to the spectators that fill up the arena in Aachen.
It looked like Laura Kraut would take home the class on Teirra (Tolano van het Riethof x Aldatus) after stopping the clock at 50.86. As the third last rider to go, the American rider’s time looked really difficult to beat, but in the end Ahlmann could not be kept away. Ludger Beerbaum ended third on Chaman (Baloubet du Rouet x I Love You) after two great clear rounds, and a fast time at 53.17, while Rene Tebbel aboard Cooper 75 (Colman x Limbus ) made sure that the fourth place also belonged to Germany.

The track in the first round was really big. The dry ditch into the triple combination and the huge vertical over the open water must have looked initimidating for many. All the riders in the top three agreed that the course was big, and maybe even bigger than a Grand Prix class. Nevertheless ten of the 32 riders in the class produced clears in the first round.
