Last year, the dark bay gelding Arc de Triomphe (Triomphe de Muze x Calvados), bred by the Van Straaten family of Den Ham, won the VION Cup in the six-year-old division. This year, he prolonged his champion title as a seven-year-old. Under Frank Schuttert, Arc de Triomphe ended third in the final on Thursday afternoon. In the final standings, the second place finisher was the winner of the semi-final: the gray gelding Aberlin (Berlin x Jorn) with Julian Kraaij. Aberlin, who was bred by A. van de Berg of Overberg, ended ninth in the final. The chestnut stallion Another Pleasure (For Pleasure x G.Ramiro Z, breeder: B. Ellen of Steenwijkerwold), ridden by Robert Vos, jumped to third place in the final standings, thanks to a nice fourth place finish in the final class. The winner of the final was Abarlo (Ustinov x Concorde, breeder: A. Tiebosch of Gemert) with Sarah Johnstone in the saddle. The combination finished fourth in the final standings.
The KWPN-approved stallions Chello III VDL (Contender x Sandro), who placed third as a five-year-old in 2010, with John Popely; Falaise de Muze (Wandor van de Mispelaere x Nabab de Reve) with Sander Naber; and Applaus (Unistar x Hugo) with Michel Hendrix placed 12th, 17th, and 18th respectively in the final standings.
The nine best combinations in the final standings automatically qualify for the World Championships for Young Jumpers in Lanaken.
