Ireland wins the European Championship for Juniors

Aug 18, 2012

Ireland's Bertram Allen, Shannon McKenzie, Max O'Reilly Hyland and Sven Hadley took home the team gold medal at the European Championship for Juniors yesterday. The team competition in Magna Racino, Austria, had no less than 21 nations at start. Double clear rounds from Bertram Allen and Wild Thing L (by Montreux) and Sven Hadley on Adelgonde Z (by Andiamo Z), a clear and a four fault round from Max O'Reilly Hyland on Da Vinci's Pride, gave the Irish the opportunity to discharge Shannon McKenzie’s score on Peyroux (by Heartbreaker). The Irish could then finish on four faults, ahead of Belgium and Great Britain that were tied on 12 penalties. After a jump-off the silver went to Belgium, and the bronze to Great Britain.

Ahead of Saturday’s final Bertram Allen (IRL), Sven Joseph Hadley (IRL), Maurice Tebbel (GER), Jos Verloy (BEL) and Chloe Vranken (BEL) have taken the lead on the overall scoreboard – all on a zero penalty score.
