Irish rider Trevor Coyle and Jubilee d’Ouilly were victorious in Gijon Monday eveningas the only combination to produce two clear rounds. Nine riders were clear after the first round and additionally three riders on four faults went on to a second round. Penelope Leprevost and Mylord Carthago came closest to Coyle, while Laura Renwick ended third, both on four faults. The ladies followed up on the next two places as well with Katharina Offel and Vivant in fourth and Katherine Dinan and Nougat du Vallet in third place, also them at a total score of four faults after two rounds.
There were some good riders and horses present in Gijon. Natale Chiudani’s wonderful ride Fixdesign Almero 12 had four faults in the second round and was placed as number six. Nick Skelton and Big Star ended as number seven with five faults in the second round while Kevin Staut and Reveur de Hurtebise HDC had twelve faults in the second round which eventually placed them as number elleven. John Whitaker was riding Argento and ended up with four faults in the first round, and his brother Michael had five faults with GIG Amai.
Belgian rider Maurice van Roosbroeck took a bad fall at the b-element in the combination, and according to news on Twitter he fractured the clavicle and will stay in the hospital over night.
