Toni Hassmann and Con Cara (Con Air x Franklin) took home the win in the World Breeding Championship for 5-year-old horses in Lanaken today. The combination was the last one to go in the jump-off, and secured the win after a fast and clear round. The first round had 12 fences including a triple combination with a vertical, vertical, oxer which caused problems for several of the young horses. This was also the first time the 5-year-olds competed at the Ratina Z main arena as the qualifications have been held on the Alme Z arena.
The course designer had set a tight time which also resulted in a lot of time faults. 13 riders still managed a clear first round and went on to the jump-off were five combinations produced another clear round. These five were, in addition to Hassmann, Pieter Clemens riding Casuality Z (Cassini II x Chekkano Z), Gerben Morsink with Coursy (Carthino Z x Guidam), Ricardo Jurado with Penta (Perigeux x Natiello) and Thomas O’Brien aboard Codarco (Darco x Orame).
