The Germans rule the Nations Challenge in Rio

Oct 7, 2012

The Oi Athina Onassis Horse Show in Rio offered their spectators two big classes yesterday. The first one was a 1.50 accumulator class, and Denis Lynch was the fastest rider aboard Night Train (Calvaro Z x Papillon Rouge) who seems to be unbeatable in these kind of classes. The Irish rider had Marcus Ehning and Sabrina (Sandro Boy x Landadel) in his heels though, and only 0,06 seconds split the two riders. Rodrigo Pessoa made the home crowd happy by taking third place riding HH Let’s Fly (Lordanos x Forrest).

At 9 p.m local time it was time for the Nations Challenge where the German team with Marco Kutscher and Ludger Beerbaum took a convincing victory. Riding Cornet’s Cristallo and Chaman the Germans produced four clear rounds and their time was 14 seconds faster than the British team in second place with Nick Skelton and Michael Whitaker. The two Brazilian teams took third and fourth place, the best team being Alvaro de Miranda and Rodrigo Pessoa who closed off at four faults, but two seconds faster than the winning team. The fastest team of the day was the Swiss team consisting of Janike Sprunger and Steve Guerdat. Their fast time was unfortunately followed by eight faults which placed them as number five.
