Billy Twomey and Shane Breen best at HOYS Saturday

Oct 7, 2012

Billy Twomey chalked up Ireland's second win at HOYS Saturday in the 1.55 Thistledown stakes riding Wings Sublieme (Oklund x Voltaire). Billy was one of eight through to the jump-off at the indoor arena, and finished with well over two seconds in hand in the final round, leaving French rider Eugenie Angot and the bay mare Atlete van't Heike (Voltaire x Landgraf I) in the runner-up spot. Third place went to Harrie Smolders riding Deuly Z (Dutch Capitol x Baloubet du Roet) as the third rider with a double clear.

Later in the vening Shane Breen made it a hat trick for Ireland Saturday when he won the Accumulator competition with his own stallion Balloon (Balou du Roet x Landcapitol). Breen saw off competition from British challenger Guy Williams and Larino (by Lordanos), who trailed the Irish rider by almost one-and-a-half seconds at the finish. The third place was taken by a Dutch rider in this class as well, Leon Thijssen with Quintera (Kannan x Quick Star).
