Cornelissen wins first leg of FEI World Cup Dressage

Oct 21, 2012

The Dutch were superior in today's first leg of Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage. Adelinde Cornelissen riding Jerich Parzival showed that they are in fantastic shape. Edward Gal riding Blue Hors Romanov also delivered a remarkable performance and finished 2nd followed by the Danish debutant Anna Kasprzak riding Donnperignon.

Today's Reem Acra FEI World Cup Freestyle ended the JBK Horse Shows and the riders and the audience were ready and wired for a fantastic experience.

Dutch star Adelinde Cornelissen riding Jerich Parzival by Jazz proved themselves worthy of the World Cup title. They rode a perfect test to music from the Nutcracker and every step they made was carefully balanced to the music. The score was 88,175% distancing them from the rest of the field. After the test Adelinde explained: "Jerich Parzival delivered from start to finish. He was relaxed and light in the front just like we have been working towards since the Olympics" said Cornelissen. Asked if she has other good horses in her stable to follow after Jerich Parzival she replied: "Yes, I have some good horses and some of them will be competing this season perhaps even in the World Cup. But Jerich Parzival is far from ready for retirement. He amazes me every day and still has a lot to give" she said.

Edward Gal riding the Danish stallion Blue Hors Romanov by Rohdiamant had an excellent test achieving 80,650% and came in 2nd. "We had some nice highlights", Gal explained afterwards, "I was particularly satisfied with the piaffe and canter work, and the mistake in the canter zigzag I consider a minor one". Edward is very pleased with the progress Blue Hors Romanov is making. From being unfocused and sometimes tense he is now much easier to control and he concentrates much better. "Our goal is to ride in Lyon and hopefully also Stockholm, but we'll take it one competition at the time", he said.

The youngest contestant of today and also World Cup debutant Anna Kasprzak was very pleased with her test: "I turned the wrong way in the middle of my test and ofcourse it distracted me. I knew I was in trouble since I couldn't show what I had left but I made my way back and found the right path. I don't think anyone except myself and those who know my test noticed", she replied with a smile. After her World Cup debut Anne wants more and would love to go to Stockholm but her main focus is and will continue to be the ECCO FEI European Championships in Herning next year. "But I will not promise anything it all depends on how Pepe's mood is, it's important for me to keep him happy in his work", Anna said.
