Wins for Dreher and Puck in Vienna

Nov 12, 2012

The Vienna Indoor Derby took place in the Wiener Stadthalle on Saturday evening. The course was long and difficult with a 730 meter long track over extraordinary fences. Thirteen of the 42 riders remained clear over the twenty jumps and moved on to the jump-off. Germany's Hans-Dieter Dreher on Embassy II delivered a crazy fast time of 39.62 seconds to take home the win. Last year's winner Steve Guerdat came the closest to Dreher with his Holsteiner mare Sidney VIII; and was lightning fast at 40.29 seconds. Another Swiss rider ended third; Beat Mändli on Louis 162 with the time of 47.56 seconds.

The Preis der Wiener Stadthalle went to Gerfried Puck on Glock's Wibo B. The nine year old grey gelding seemed to make light work of the 1.45 course. "For me, a lot has changed over a short period of time," Gerfried Puck said afterwards. "I'm back in Austria, to work with the Glock family – making it possible for me to ride great horses such as Wibo.” The thunderous applause, cheers and whistles from the enthusiastic audience during Gerfried's lap of honor never seemed to end, celebrating also Hans-Dieter Dreher and Constantin B in second and Simon Delestre on Commissario in third.
