Doda on top at Gucci Paris Masters

Alvaro de Miranda and AD Ashleigh Drossel Dan (Drosselklang II x Ashleigh Brigadier) raced to victory in the 1.55 meter Prix GDE at Gucci Paris Masters Friday night. It was a very entertaining class that the French crowds got to see, and with a full house the atmosphere could not have been better. The temperature got even higher as four of the nine riders in the jump-off turned out to be French; Penelope Leprevost, Roger Yves Bost, Patrice Delaveau and Simon Delestre all produced clear first rounds – but although fast the second time around none of them could match the Brazilian rider's pace.
The first round saw nine riders go clear over the demanding track.
It was not until rider number nine entered the course that there was a clear round; Penelope Leprevost on Nice Stephanie (Cardento x Ralme Z) made the audience go wild and it got even wilder when Bosty and Nippon d'Elle (Sherif d'Elle x Narcos II) repeated Penelope a few riders later. Then followed Doda straight afterwards, before Kent Farrigton on Uceko (Celano x Koriander) rode a super clear. As did Gerco Schröder on Eurcommerce New Orleans (Colbert x Carthago), and Carinjo HDC (Cascabelle x Landgraf I) who just jumps better and better under Patrice Delaveau.
Sergio Alvarez Moya and Carlo 273 (Cascavelle x Contender) keep on impressing, and set another clear round effortlessly – before being joined in the jump-off by Christian Ahlmann on a super-jumping Codex One (Contendro I x Glueckspilz) and the fourth French rider Simon Delestre on Valentino Velvet (Indoctro x Burgraaf).
The jump-off was bound to be fast, and when Penelope opened with a clear round the home crowd went wild again. The super stylish rider had a good time at 34.60, but it looked like it could be beat. Bosty was not his usually super fast self and went for a clear and steady round, while next to go Doda had other plans. He raced around the shortened seven fence track, and took a super short turn to the oxer by the entrance midway and raced from the penultimate vertical to the final fence – crossing the finish line in 32.27 seconds and taking the lead. Kent Farrington really gave it a go, and it looked like it could be good enough – but the American rider was 0.46 seconds behind Doda and eventually it was good enough for third. After Gerco had gone for a more steady version, Patrice Delaveau set off on Carinjo HDC – flying around the course with the crowds roaring as he jumped the two last fences. The French rider was 0.37 seconds behind Doda though, and had to settle for second. Neither of the remaining riders could catch Doda – both Sergio and Christian had one down each and Simon was simply not fast enough.
