Maikel van der Vleuten shine in Salzburg GP

The Pappas Amadeus Grand Prix in Salzburg had a whole lot at stake; 100,000 Euro in prize money and in addition a Mercedes C-Class for the winner – not to forget a lot of world ranking points. Top riders delighted the home crowd as they gave their best over Georg Christoph Bödicker’s course. Twelve of the 40 riders managed to produce flawless rounds, and made it to the jump-off.

As the first in the jump-off Maikel van der Vleuten did have a tough draw, but he chose an ideal mix of aggression and control and went on aboard his 10 year old stallion VDL Groep Verdi (Quidam de Revel x Landgraf I). With a clear round in 40.41 seconds, he took the lead from the start and nobody could catch him! Only the CSI3 * Grand Prix winner from Lamprechtshausen 2012 Roberto Turchetto came close on the Baldini-son Baretto, with a clear round in 41.55 seconds. Pia-Luise Aufrecht with MCB Ulke (Lux x Peter Pan) ended third with one down in the jump-off.
