It was Richard Spooner on Cristallo, and Katharina Offel on Cathleen that went to the top in the two first five star classes of international jumping at Casa Novas on Friday. In this first day of the winter edition of the International Jumping Show of Casas Novas, the winners of last winter's edition Telefonica Grand Prix, Richard Spooner and Cristallo (Caretino x Cicero), crowned the day by winning the NH Hotels Trophy - a 1.50 class with a jump-off. Richard was as usual lightning fast in the jump-off at 40.90 seconds, leaving Harrie Smolders on Exquis Powerfee (Fedor x Erdball XX) to second with the time of 41.43. There were nine double clear in the class, and the third fastest one belonged to French veteran Michel Robert and the lovely stallion Nenuphar'Jac (Cumano x Pidayack) with a time of 41.48 seconds.
The Warsteiner Trophy went to Katharina Offel and Cathleen (Cordobes I x Ramiro's Son). After experiencing some ups and downs with the ten year old mare over the last month, Kathi sorted things out and ended up on top in the class that counted over 60 riders. With the time of 56.28, Kathi was fractions faster than Michel Robert on Catapulte (Limbo x Fedor) at 56.37 seconds. Stephex Stables-rider Eiken Sato ended third on Viva (Corrado x Nimmerdor), crossing the finish line on 56.41 seconds.
Belgium rider Jos Verlooy won the two star Mostoles Industrial Trophy with his horse Domino (Thunder Van De Zuuthoeve x Azur D). The pair had the best time at 32,70 seconds over the 1,40 meters track divided in two phases. Portuguese rider Alexandre Mascarehnas de Lemos ended second on Wannahave in 33,15 seconds, while third place went to Swiss rider Corine Sorge aboard Pentagon finishing in a time of 34,60 seconds.
