Charlotte Dujardin sets new world record in London

Double Olympic dressage champion Charlotte Dujardin set a new world record at the London International Horse Show.

Dujardin - who had to be treated for bronchitis earlier on Monday - and her superb London 2012 horse Valegro set a new record of 84.447% for the sport's grand prix discipline. It broke the previous record of 84.08% set by Dutch star Edward Gal and Totilas at the 2009 European Championships in Windsor. Dujardin, 27, now holds world records in the grand prix and grand prix special phases, while she also set three Olympic records at Greenwich Park earlier this year.

The Olympia masterclass was Dujardin and Valegro's first competitive outing since the Olympics. "The horse is amazing, I am just so lucky to have him," she said. "I had the worst headache this morning. I rode a bit safer than I would normally."

Dujardin and 14 other qualifiers will now contest the World Cup freestyle to music class in front of a capacity crowd on Tuesday night. Her routine will be a repeat of the London 2012 showcase that featured strains of Land of Hope and Glory, interspersed with Big Ben chimes.
