Matthias Rath rocked the house

Feb 5, 2013

He has been going back and forth between Schafhof and Erp in Holland since September with a truckload of talented dressage stallions. In Vechta he showed that all the training had paid off.

In Vechta the 9-year-old Fürst Romancier (by Fürst Heinrich-Romancier) was first to go, and what a different appearance he made compared to last year. Matthias and Fürst Romancier showed that the Nürberger Burg Pokal is a very reachable target this year.

The handsome dark bay Bretton Woods (by Johnson-De Niro) showed great gaits and active hind-legs, all in all a much more harmonious picture with both softness and expression. –I feel he has gained a lot of strength, we have worked on a number of issues and now I know how to develop him further. –It works great with Sjef and Anky, I have to work a lot to learn a new system, a way of thinking, but it feels really good and the horses respond, states Matthias. He spends three days in Erp and the drives back to Schafhof close to Frankfurt most weeks.

Totilas has a bit of a break for the moment; he has bred for a few weeks, collecting for frozen semen. –He had a slight injury when breeding but it was in the plan for him to have a break, we have not yet made plans for the outdoor season with him, which show to begin with.

-In the new training I have been able to learn from Totilas, he is the master in that area and I have learned a lot that I can use with the younger ones like Fürst and Bretton, it’s fantastic.
Matthias has a bold goal this year, to ride the Nürnberger Burgpokal with both of his stallions.

If the stars of today are not enough Matthias has a few potential ones up his sleeve. Don Frederic (born 2009 by Don Fredrico-Wolkentanz I) and Beaulieu (born 2010 by Bentley –Sandro Hit) will be in his stable as well, as his family holds the sport rights.

...and Mathias Rath and Totilas definitely want to go to the European Championships in Herning in august, what else did you expect.
