Marco Kutscher took home the CSI3* Grand Prix in Neumünster, Germany on Sunday. Aboard Cornet's Cristallo - a son of Marco's former super star Cornet Obolensky - the German rider was victorious against a super strong field of 39 riders. Nine of these qualified for the jump-off, where yet again five produced clear rounds.
Christian Schou with Balougraph (Balou du Rouet x Pilot) was first to go in the jump-off, but both he and second-to-go Carsten-Otto Nagel with Cazaro (Chambertin), had to settle with four faults.
Next out was the always fast Jan Wernke with Queen Mary (Contendro x Caretino). The home rider really put some preasure on the rest of the riders with a clear and fast jump-off in 36.27 seconds. Hans-Thorben Rüder tried to beat the time with Orlanda, but the third fence fell.
Ludger Beerbaum with the amazing 9 year old Zinedine (Guidam x Heartbreaker) did a speedy round, but didn't go all in and ended the jump-off in 39.92 seconds. Maikel van der Vleuten was almost three seconds faster than Ludger and went in on second place with VDL Groep Eureka (Chin Chin x Quidam de Revel).
Pius Schwizer wanted to win, and went for it with the impressive Powerplay (Casall x Limbus). It was fast and good enough to take over the lead as the Swiss rider stopped the clock on 35.91 seconds. Four faults was the results for Jeroen Dubbeldam with the lovely stallion Quality Time TN (Quantum x Cantus) after a really short turn to the third fence.
Last out was Marco Kutscher with Cornet's Cristallo. Nicknamed Alien, the 10 year old gelding lived up to his name by being unearthly fast today. Short turns and a race on the long stretch to the last fence resulted in the win, as the German rider stopped the clock at 35.30 seconds.
