Although the big names are absent at the Reem Acra World Cup Final in Gothenburg, the sport of dressage flourished in the first part, the Grand Prix. Hans Peter Minderhoud and Glock's Flirt (Florestan) were on outstanding form and took the lead with 76.871%.
Two Swedish riders are close behind. Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfven had an early start in the Scandinavium on Don Auriello and scored 76.50% for second place. “I had a bad start, with my horse taking off in canter”, said Vilhelmson in the press conference. “I really had to focus in order to continue.”
Swedish Patrik Kittel and Scandic (Solos Carex) took third place. The 17-year old stallion seemed distracted by the audience, applauding Kittel’s arrival in the arena. “I love the atmosphere, even though my horse got tense”, said Kittel. “It is good for our sport. This is better than no distraction in an arena without atmosphere.”
Kittel’s percentage was 76.400%.
Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and the 15-year old stallion Unee BB (Gribaldi) have seen better days and finished fourth (75.257%).
The Grand Prix only determined the order of go in the Freestyle, the big battle for the Reem Acra World Cup which will take place on Sunday.
